Background
Dr. Penny Beuning is a Professor and the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Northeastern University, who is experienced DNA damage recognition and tolerance.
Dr. Beuning seeks to understand cellular responses to DNA damage. All organisms experience damage to their genetic material from environmental and endogenous sources. Multiple biological systems exist to identify and remove damaged bases from DNA in organisms from bacteria to humans.
Background
Dr. Roger Giese is a Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Analysis in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Senior Faculty Fellow in the Barnett Institute, and an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University. He is experienced in trace detection of DNA adducts (cancer seeds).
Dr. Giese obtained a B.S. in chemistry from Hamline University in 1965, a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from MIT in 1969, and trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Biophysics Laboratory, at Harvard Medical School, before joining Northeastern University in 1973. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry.
